RARE & INTERESTING CLEMENT-NEUMANN BELGIAN SEMI

AUTO CARBINE. Cal. 401 SL. S# 542. It has been estimated that fewer than 1,000 of these nicely machined semi automatic rifles were made to compete over seas w/ Winchester's Model 1910. This example has 24" tapered rnd. bbl. w/ integral solid matted rib fitted w/ 1 standing V notch rear & silver bead front sights. Blued action is of blowback design w/ recoil spring, etc. housed under removable forend. Action is matted on top. & has charging handle w/ grasping grooves at rear. Rifle is clip fed. Pushing mag. upward locks bolt in rear position. Grasping mag. by finger grooves at bottom & pulling down will release bolt if tension is taken up by charging handle. A toggling safety is at right side in front of trigger. Left side of action marked "MODELE BREVETTE 21272" & w/ cal. Top rear stamped "CARBINE AUTOMATIQUE" above circular giraffe logo. S# is at bottom rear. Belgian Nitro proofs are on left side of action, bottom of bbl. & breech block. Rnd. knob pistol grip buttstock of attractively fiddle figured European walnut measures 14 1/4" over "CLEMENT-NEUMANN" embossed hard rubber buttplate. Grip is checkered. Matching forend is removable w/ push button at front. MAGS: 1-4 rd. marked "401 CAL" on bottom & is sourced from a Win. M1910. CONDITION: fine. Bbl. & action retaining 70% original blue w/ scattered rusting & associated pitting. Stocks retain most of their varnish finish, w/ lg. number of marks & scratches, some fairly heavy. Original buttplate is cracked w/ some losses & epoxy repairs. Bore bright & shiny. Rifle appears to work. (21-2518/MGM). CURIO. $800-1,500.
