RARE JOSEPH LONG MARKED PERCUSSION PISTOL.

Cal. 48 smooth bore. NSN. Bbl. 10" full oct. signed "J.L.". The engraved percussion lock is marked "WARRANTED". Stock is curly maple & has 4 typical Joe Long silver inlays along the bbl. & the typical Long football shaped sideplate. This particular pistol was previously owned by Edith & TJ Cooper. Joe Long worked in Beaver Springs, Snyder County, PA in 1830 & is one of the areas most sought after gunsmiths. This is only the fourth Joe Long pistol this consultant has ever seen. CONDITION: appears fine & original w/ exception of a silver inlay on the left hand side at the muzzle which came loose and had been temporarily glued in. The original inlay is still w/ the gun but needs to be retacked properly. PROVENANCE: Collection of Dr. John Persing. (01-19643/RG). ANTIQUE. $10,000-20,000.
