RARE M1805 HARPERS FERRY FLINTLOCK PISTOL DATED

1807 AND NUMBERED 1593. Cal. 54. S# 1593. Bbl. measures 10 1/16”. Of a total number of 4,096 pistols produced, 2,880 M1805 pistols were manufactured at Harper's Ferry dated 1807. Of these 2,880 pistols, only 303 examples dated 1807 are known to have survived to present day in various collections. This example is serial number "1593". Bbl. is proofed on the left side with eagle head over “P” & “US” in an oval. The serial number “1593" is stamped in front of the US proof. Pistol is original flint with original lock intact. Lock features a spread winged American eagle over “US” in front of the cock and “HARPERS FERRY 1807” to the rear of the cock. Brass trigger guard, buttcap, side plate, nose band & entry thimble. There is an iron ramrod thimble that is atypical of M1805 pistols. There is a brass tipped wooden ramrod below the iron rib under the bbl. A light cartouche can still be discerned on the stock just to the rear of the side plate. A large "P" has been carved on the underside of the stock between the trigger guard and the entry thimble. CONDITION: iron has a lightly cleaned, medium gray, lightly mottled patina. Brass has undoubtably been cleaned in the past but has begun to reacquire a mellow mustard patina. Lock holds both full and half cock but action may need some adjustment. It appears that the top jaw and jaw screw have been replaced at some point. There is a small chip at the top of the frizzen. Wood is generally solid but has a crack that extends from the upper central part of the side plate to nearly the base of the trigger guard. There is a small chip near the front of the lock plate. (01-21494/BF). ANTIQUE. $5,000-7,000.
