Rarely seen is this unique design 1850s vintage rear lever operated breech loading navy size percussion pistol. “WW MARSTON” & “PATENTED 1850 / NEW YORK” on breech w/ fixed inset front & rear sights. Bulbous flat brass frame is minimally engraved, 2 piece walnut grips shot unique paper bodied cartridge w/ a leather base w/ central hole for ignition. A rare original cartridge companies this pistol. CONDITION: very good overall, smooth iron patina, good markings, smooth mustard colored patina brass. Mechanically fine w/ well-defined pitted rifled bore. Cartridge is very good overall. PROVENANCE: From the Collection of James B. Taylor. (01-20462/JS). ANTIQUE. $3,000-5,000.
