RARE MAUSER MODEL 66S SNIPER RIFLE.

Cal. 308 Winchester. S# SG47695. Designed by Mauser as requested by the German police in response to the acts of terrorism at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich. A good number of these fine and accurate rifles were delivered to the Israeli defense force. Many were also issued to German police. They were noted for their fine accuracy helped by extremely fast lock time. Examples are seldom seen in the United States. This rifle has 27" heavy weight barrel fitted with muzzle brake having five vertical cuts and one cut at a 45 degree angle. Barrel shank is marked "Original Mauser" with logo. Caliber and 1988 Ulm nitro proofs are on left side. Barrel is also fitted with standard sight mounting base marked "Made in Germany". Model 66S telescoping Mauser action is of later style with silent rotating safety on right side of cocking piece. Left side of slide is marked with Mauser logo and patent numbers. Right side of slide has Mauser information and model. Left side of receiver ring is stamped with S# with digits after "SG" prefix blanked out with "00000" and a new number "47695" stamped above. Standard adjustable trigger is fitted (trigger shoe removed). No import marks are noted on wood or metal. Specially designed target type thumb hole stock of dense European walnut measures 13 3/4" over adjustable "Morgan" pad. A spring loaded pop up cheekpiece is fitted, with stop screw on left side of butt. A Mauser logo is also on left side of butt near toe. Grip and heavy squared forend are stippled. Forend is not cut for later type bipod/sling rail. Sight base and receiver ring are fitted with unmarked milled steel picatinny rail holding 30MM "IOR" "BUCURESTI" 2.5-10X scope marked "MADE IN ROMANIA" with high turret adjustments and lighted ranging crosshair reticle, in QD rings. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: rifle comes with Kolpin black plastic foam lined case. CONDITION: fine. Metal parts retaining over 95% phosphate finish. Stock retaining over 90% oil finish with some scattered marks. Bore is bright and shiny. Mechanically smooth. Scope is also very fine with only a very few minor marks, optically clear. (22-5699/MGM).
