RARE NY MARKED PUSH DAGGER WITH ORIGINAL SHEATH.

Pictured on page 356 of Norm Flayderman’s “THE BOWIE KNIFE”. He describes it: “Massive blacksmith fashioned push dagger, 8.5” overall, Wide 6” double edged tapered blade with tiny markings “G. W. NIXON / NY” near handle. Although there is a known early cutler of that same name, it is unlikely he made this piece. Leather scabbard with wide German silver mount.” I am not sure why Norm did not believe Nixon made this wonderful weapon; he did not even show mark in his book. I am sure there were gamblers, and unsavory characters in New York too in antebellum North. It is possible that this dagger started out life as larger tool cutdown, but the Nixon mark is impeccable, and everything appears pre 1860 when Nixon died. Regardless, this is the biggest push dagger you will find, and it is impressive. CONDITION: very good overall, blade has dark smooth iron patina with light areas of pitting, sheath is Sheffield style with Moroccan leather veneer over cardboard with gold decoration, German silver throat with belt loop, missing tip, folded and poor body but protects blade. (02-17221/JS). $4,000-6,000.
