RARE US SIGNAL CORPS CONTAINER PG-51: This is a real blast from the past. An OD green container designed for the US Signal Corps to carry 4 official carrier pigeons for communicating w/ troops. Equally as interesting is an included message book, used to write the coded messages, carbon copied, to deliver via pigeon. It measures 21.5"x7"x14". Top cover has a metal plaque that reads: "SIGNAL CORPS US ARMY / CONTAINER PG-51 / DESIGNED AT SIGNAL CORPS LABORATORIES / FORT MONMOUTH NEW JERSEY / SERIAL NUMBER 3160 / ORDER NO. 7591 PHILA43 / SUPPLIED BY / HIPWELL MFG COMPANY, INC / YONKERS NEW YORK". It also includes an issued carry strap. The box is in serviceable condition and all doors open, close & latch. Each end has plexiglass inserts, w/ several drilled holes for oxygen and are removable to access the 4 individual food / water containers which are also present. Paint coverage is complete though box has some light wear from the years. The message book M-210 appears unused. / M1 GARAND TEN GUN SHIPPING CRATE: Wooden crate designed to ship 10 M1 Garand rifles.
