RARE & POPULAR COLT SPORTER LIGHTWEIGHT 9MM
CARBINE. Cal. 9mm. S# NL002612. Bbl. 16". Today the pistol caliber carbine market has exploded into an enormous faction of the industry. One of the early pioneers, aside from prior SMG configurations simply offered in semi auto was the full-size Colt AR15 chambered in 9mm NATO. This is a pre-1994 example of their Sporter Lightweight, which outwardly resembles the popular & then common AR15 A2 carbine. Redesigned as a straight blowback system & fed w/ a proprietary mag. through the use of pinned mag. blocks which also contained the feed ramp & ejector, the Colt carbine was an early pioneer. In earlier days, 9mm was often thought of & utilized as a common SMG rd., but has since been normalized in this extremely popular category. The bbl. representing a traditional pencil profile is marked “C MP CHROME BORE 9MM-NATO” & terminated w/ an A1 flash hider. The protected post front sight sans the gas block appears no different outwardly, but contains no bayonet lug. The rear sight is a standard E1 flip up peep located at the rear of the carry handle. Since the necessary ejection port length was far less than its big brother, Colt employed a cut down modified dust cover w/ an ejection port buffer to utilize the same real estate as the 223. There is no forward assist. Full length 10.5" A2 rear stock w/ trapdoor & swing swivel at the base. Traditional rnd. carbine length A2 style handguards w/ tapered delta ring. Hogue finger groove rubber pistol grip & Magpul extended trigger guard. Front sight block has aftermarket 2" picatinny rail sections at 3 & 9 o’clock & currently hosts a Valkyrie PL-2 O-Light. M16 cut bolt carrier. Lower receiver still retains original pinned blocking mechanism which was employed by Colt beginning in the late 1980s. T.E.A.M. black nylon sling system. MAGS: 1 Colt 32 rd. mag. w/ Magpul. CONDITION: finish is complete & consistent on all exposed metal surfaces. A few sm. areas of thinning at high spots & in areas that typically succumb to vertical storage. On board O-Light appears bright & functional. Bore is shiny w/ strong rifling. Fire control mechanism appears to function correctly when cycled by hand. (21-1062/JZ). MODERN. $700-1,100.
