RARE SELF PRIMING GEDNEY PATENT PERCUSSION

CONVERSION OF US MODEL 1836 WATERS PISTOL. 54 Cal. NSN. Rarely seen 1859 patent self-priming hammer with self contained primer magazine and lever which advances the primer when the hammer is cocked. Hammer is marked: “AM. PRIMING & ARMS CO. / NEW YORK” on face & “PAT. MARCH 15, 1859”. Standard model 1837 dated Waters model 1836 has flint battery removed, angular slot on surface for mechanism lever arm, drum bolster with percussion nipple. A handful of known specimens have variant hammers but all prototypes surviving are mounted on model 1836 contract pistols and all are very scarce. CONDITION: good to very good overall, hammer retains about 50% muted case colors, pistol overall gray metal, pitting, all markings discernible including original 1836 barrel proofs, lock markings, and inspector cartouches. Pistol cocks fine but lever is frozen and does not advance caps, good smooth bore. (01-21489/JS). ANTIQUE. $4,000-6,000.
