ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S# 1497223. Rare National Match rifle produced in 1937 w/ all correct features in excellent condition w/ Springfield Research Service letter documenting this rifle & it's shipping to Commanding Officer Troop K 121st Cavalry NY National Guard Syracuse, NY on 06/23/39. Star gauged 24" bbl. marked behind front sight "SA flaming bomb 3-37". Receiver has "Hatcher Hole". Polished bolt numbered by electro pencil to rifle. Bolt marked "NS" on top of handle & marked "3" underneath handle. Extractor marked on rear "CV". Bolt race ways have been polished leaving the punch proof mark faint on right rail. Cocking piece marked "C64109-2". Mag. cut off is polished on underside. Ladder rear sight graduated to 2850yds. w/ volley notch. Flat windage & elevation knobs. Blade front sight. Grooved trigger. Type C matching walnut stock set. Stock marked on left side w/ faint "S.A. SPG". Marked in cutoff recess w/ "W 7 2". Has encircled "P" proof under grip & drawing number "D-1836" at belly. Correct milled furniture. Correct 10 LPI trap buttplate. Handguard has drawing number "D28179". 1907 Sling w/ brass hooks markings appear to be "?SSCO J.E.M." UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Springfield Research Service letter dated Sept. 21, 2010 indicating rifle "Type: Model 1903A1, National Match 1939. Caliber .30. New with Target and Star gauge Record. / Shipped To: Commander Officer, Troop "K", 121st Cavalry, N.Y. National Guard, Syracuse, New York. / Shipped on: 6/23/29." Also included is a photo copy of voucher No. 8-1482. confirming same information as letter. Rifle equipped w/ brass front sight cover marked "P. J. O'HARE SOUTH ORANGE N.J. MADE IN U.S.A." & black finished, steel hinged rear sight cover also by P.J. O'Hare. Front sight cover is overall patina w/ wear dents & scratches. Rear sight cover has thin finish w/ wear, scratches & flaking. CONDITION: a fine example of a rare National Match rifle while undoubtedly used, was well cared for. Stock set has very light wear & sm. scattered handling marks. Notable dents occurring on forward end of handguard on top & left. Metal has 90% original parkerized finish w/ light high point wear. Front sight fixed base has notable thinning due to use of accessory front sight cover. Sling has wear, flexing & cracking. Near excellent shiny bore. (21-1445/RW). CURIO. $2,500-4,000.
