RARE U.S. SPRINGFIELD HOFFER-THOMPSON 22 CAL.

GALLERY PRACTICE BOLT ACTION RIFLE. Cal .22 short. S# 316334. Bbl. 23-15/16". Barrel marked behind front sight “SA” “flaming bomb”& “9-10”. Ladder rear sight graduated to 2850 yards w/volley notch. Flat elevation knob and large dished grooved elevation knob. Blade front sight. The now rare Hoffer-Thompson .22 caliber rifles were produced from 1907 to 1919. They used mostly service rifle parts, except for barrels and some mainsprings. The cartridges were loaded in a steel adapter resembling the service cartridge and loaded in the magazine with a special stripper clip.
The serial number of this rifle of this rifle indicates a manufacture date of 1907. The bolt w/ a straight down handle is marked under the safety lug “J 5”. Safety and bolt shroud marked “R”. Unmarked replacement scant grip walnut stock set w/ fine checkered trap buttplate. All milled furniture. Green web sling. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 5 blued steel smooth bore .22 short cartridge adaptors. CONDITION: replacement WWII vintage stock set has moderate wear and handling marks throughout. Metal has worn original finish turning gray and patina. Markings enhanced with white. Bore is heavily worn, turning dark, with notable deep pitting. (22-4186/RW). CURIO. $1,200-1,800.
