PERSONALLY OWNED BY JOHN C. GARAND, FAMED DESIGNER OF THE M1 GARAND RIFLE.. Articles acquired from Scott A. Duff, nationally known firearms authority & author, according to the sales receipt dated 9-17-2003. Pieces are accompanied by a copy of the sales receipt & Certificates of Authenticity signed by Richard N. Garand & Scott A. Duff dated 9-16-03. Richard N. Garand was the son of the late John C. Garand who while working at the Springfield Armory developed the famous M1 Garand military rifle used from WWII through the Vietnam era. 1) Machinist outside caliper approx. 3-1/4" long w/ friction joint. Caliper is marked “L.S. Starrett Co. Athol, Mass USA”. CONDITION: caliper is lightly worn from careful use w/ scattered scratches & spots of light oxidation. 2) Machinist inside caliper approx. 6-3/4" long by “Brown & Sharpe, Providence RI”. CONDITION: Caliper appears to have seen a good amount of careful use & has light wear & oxidation. (02-17437-1/RW). 3) Vickers Machine Gun Model of 1915 & Mark IV Tripod handbook published by Colt, Hartford, Conn. Copyright 1917. This pocket size handbook was a condensation of a larger volume & meant to be carried by a machine gunner. CONDITION: Blue paper covers. Handbook is legible but has light wear & staining. 4) Lot of 3 brass cleaning rods consisting of 1 WWI 1911 pistol rod, 1 long jag tip & 1 section w/o male threads. CONDITION: in good serviceable condition w/ appropriate patina. 5) 1 unfinished or modified crossguard for knife or bayonet. Crossguard measures approx. 1-3/4" by 13/16". Slot is 1" x 1/8". CONDITION: mill scale finish w/ file marks. 6) Copy of The M1 Garand World War II by Scott A. Duff, updated 2nd edition. Volume has light wear & staining. The group also includes as stated above 4 Certificates of Authenticity for the 2 machinist tools, the Machine Gun Handbook, the crossguard, & the cleaning rods. CONDITION: certificates are in very good condition. (02-17437-1/RW). $200-400.
