RARE VICKERS MODEL DUTCH LUGER SEMI-AUTO PISTOL.
Cal. 9mm Luger. S# 6981. Bbl. 4” w/ matching number & British proofs; matching number on recoil lug of receiver plus Dutch Royal Proof on left front. Mfg. 1921 & 1922 in 1906 style as preferred by Dutch military. Due to Treaty of Versailles, Germany could not make 9mm pistols so Vickers of England obtained license from DWM to satisfy Netherlands contract for 6000 Lugers. Frame marked “RUST” (w/ arrow) which is Dutch for safe. Left side flat of frame has brass unit plate marked “4 – Inf. IX / 21”. Right side of frame above front trigger guard bow marked “C/16”. Matching numbers on side plate (bottom), takedown lever (bottom), trigger, rear toggle, front toggle (underside), breech block (side), dual “GELADEN” marked extractor (sm. on bottom), firing pin (sm.), rear toggle pivot & grip safety w/ “6981”(6 very lightly struck over 0 & preceded by sm. 7 & over sm. “R”). Appropriately coarse checkered walnut grips; deeply stamped “6981” in lg. font plus “GS” in oval on left. Blued finish w/ strawed sm. parts. Blued firing pin retainer; firing pin appears mostly patina w/ almost worn blued appearance. Simpson Ltd. import mark on bottom of trigger guard near front strap. MAGS: fair correct tin plated 8 rd. completely unmarked w/ wood base; cleaned gray patina appearance of body. CONDITION: uncommon good to very good overall appearance as references state most are observed in “rough condition”. Although proper functioning, slight drag between receiver & frame plus slight looseness between toggles & receiver. Slight drag in grip safety function; faint impact marks on top front right of frame. Arsenal quality refinish over prior light marks & faint pitting; markings & contours well preserved. Typical light high point wear on edges of trigger guard, front of frame rails, side plate & near muzzle. Especially nice appearing face & left side of trigger; right side & balance of sm. parts w/ fading plus gray tone to safety lever. Very good appearing grips w/ noticeable clearance around mag. release button yet standard tight clearance on right side. Fair to good bore w/ light wear & even light pitting. (20-3255/NW).
