Sporterized. Made by the Italian government for the Japanese Imperial Navy just before or during the early part of WWII. Originally chambered for the Japanese 6.5mm Arisaka cartridge; there is no added caliber mark to indicate any change, but the exact chambering must be checked by a gunsmith to be sure. Features 24" barrel, Mauser style front sight band with blade sight, original folding ladder sight with sliding cross bar, hinged floorplate (Mauser style magazine), manual safety, bolt handle bent and slightly swept, walnut sporter stock, sling swivels, ventilated rubber recoil pad. Stock is semi-pistol grip with checkered steel cap on flared grip, checkering at wrist & forend, left handed cheek piece, wider section at forend. Bore is fair to good condition, strong rifling with dark grooves, some light pitting throughout, might improve with cleaning. Retains 60% deep blued finish, fading and turning patina brown on bottom metal and near muzzle, with scratches and edge losses. Bolt is straw colored bare metal. Wood is good condition, seam in butt indicates made from two pieces, small dents and handling marks. Vintage recoil pad is hard. Condition is NRA Good++ (as sporterized) *** C&R Firearm ***
