HOWE MAUSER BOLT ACTION RIFLE WITH ZEISS SCOPE.
Cal. 30-06. S# F0043 on action. G&H #2751 on barrel (1987). This handsome rifle based on a 1909 Argentine action has 24" medium sporter weight barrel fitted with stippled quarter rib holding one standing, two folding leaf express rear sight with gold lines. A sling eye and front sight ramp are banded on. Ramp holds silver bead front sight under knurled protector. Muzzle is ported. Top of barrel is engraved "No. 2751 Griffin & Howe, Inc. New York, N.Y." caliber is on left barrel shank. Model 1909 action has receiver ring stippled and G&H side mount fitted. Bolt has engine turned body and lowered handle with pear shaped knob checkered in five panels and engraved with feather burst on end. An aftermarket bolt shroud with M70 type safety is fitted, as is a Canjar trigger. Original bottom metal is retained with release button built up. Trigger guard bow is reshaped. Classically styled pistol grip stock of dense lightly marbled European walnut measures 13 1/2" over Neidner checkered steel buttplate with trap. Stock features swept shadow line right hand cheekpiece, steel grip cap, horn forend tip and classic G&H checkering around grip and forend. A gold oval on toeline is engraved "NEJ". Barrel channel is stamped with last three digits of S# and "G&H 87". Inletting of action is stamped with stock maker's initials "ST". A braided leather sling is in QD loops. Rifle is mounted with Zeiss Diatal-C 4X scope with duplex reticle in G&H rings and slide. CONDITION: very fine. Appears essentially unused since being custom built with only a few handling marks mostly found on wood. Checkering remains light and crisp. Bright shiny bore. Mechanically fine. Scope is also very fine, optically clear. (23-124/MGM). MODERN. $3,000-5,000.
