1797 FLINTLOCK MUSKET BY MILES. Cal. 69. NSN. Most likely made during the first contract issued to John Miles for 2,000 muskets. Bbl. 43 7/8", stamped w/ Liberty cap over "P" (Pre 1799 proof) & another single "P" proof along w/ stamped "P". Original flintlock w/ reinforced cock, integral pan, bridled frizzen & feather spring w/ spear finial stamped "MILES" & "CP" at tail. Stock is iron mounted in Charleville style & attaches to bbl. w/ 3 spring retained bands. Right side of butt is branded "SP.6 7th REG". Sling loops are present along w/ a trumpet tipped ramrod. CONDITION: metal parts cleaned to silver highlights w/ brown & black pitting. Stock w/ old refinish & a number of cracks through lock & rear bbl. area, which show old repairs. Wood along bbl. channel quite good. w/ 1 old ding on right side. Lock is operable. Pitted bore. PROVENANCE: The Estate Collection of Gary Parietti. (01-19778/MGM). ANTIQUE. $1,500-2,000.
