REGISTERED 12 GAUGE STREET SWEEPER SHOTGUN.
Cal. 12 Ga. S# 93-00192. Bbl. 18". An S/S Cobray design based on the original South African Striker shotgun, which was originally fielded as a riot control tool in the early 1980’s. It utilizes an easily recognizable 12 rd. drum, which functions more like a revolver than a modern self-loading firearm. These guns were extremely popular in niche areas, but became a victim of its own marketing, combined w/ a political zeal to over regulate any firearm that looked “scary”. Early in his Presidency, Bill Clinton appointed Lloyd Benson as secretary of the treasury, who was previously well-known for his anti-gun stance. Unable to push anything meaningful through congress w/ the help of Sarah Brady’s propaganda machine, Congress was bypassed & gun control was achieved through agency regulation changes. One of the first & more prominent changes went after the bore dia. measurement of 1/2" which designates a firearm legally as a destructive device unless it is designated to have a “sporting purpose”. BATF under Benson’s leadership determined that the Street Sweeper, the Stryker 12, the USAS 12 & SPAS 15 no longer met that criteria & were immediately redesignated as DDs. Destructive Devices are registered as part of the NFRTR just like machine guns & owners of these newly designated firearms were given a brief period of time to add them to the registry which was accommodated w/ out the normal $200.00 mfg. fee. Many people refused to register theirs, so those that exist available for lawful commerce today are far less than originally mfg. & imported such as this example. While the bbl. enjoys a dark black bluing, most other exposed metal surfaces are parkerized. Top folding metal stock w/ rubber coated buttplate locks into positions both open & closed. A proprietary sight mounting surface is located on top of receiver, which functions as a crude sighting slot, above the 12-rd. spring assisted drum. The fire control mechanism is unique in that it incorporates a cyl. like a traditional revolver & a dbl. action trigger which allows indexing of the cyl. w/ out actuating the trigger which is useful both in loading & unloading. The cyl. employs a loading/unloading gate at the 1 o’clock position in which a spring-loaded ejection rod is utilized to empty shells. The cross-slide safety is located behind the trigger. Bbl. shroud extends 11" in front of the receiver & incorporates a vertical pistol grip. Left side of receiver behind drum emblemized w/ lightning bolt “S/S” shielded logo & familiar Cobray snake logo on top left & right sides of pistol grip. Front receiver section in front of drum factory stamped “FMJ DUCKTOWN TN / SH / 93 00192” w/ added electric pencil engraving “SS12GA”. MAGS: 12-rd. internal drum mag. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: factory owner's manual. CONDITION: aside from some scratches in the finish on the drum which is common during vertical storage due to the extreme width, all other aspects indicate very little usage if any at all. Bore is still mirror shiny & winding spring in drum mechanism is very strong. Trigger application to index drum is fast & positive, shoulder stock locks tightly in both open & closed positions. Fire control mechanism appears to function correctly when cycled by hand. NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT DESTRUCTIVE DEVICE REQUIRING BATF TRANSFER BEFORE TAKING POSSESSION. FULLY TRANSFERABLE. (03-1511/JZ). MODERN CLASS III. $500-700.
