REMINGTON-KEENE BOLT ACTION MAGAZINE RIFLE.

Cal. 45-70. NSN. Remington's first bolt action rifle, estimated quantity 5,000 mfg. 1880-1883. Bbl. 24 1/4". Combination front sight dovetailed on mag. band w/ graduated leaf rear sight. Full length tubular mag. Manually cocked hammer mounted on end of bolt. Left side has mag. cutoff. Top of bolt has 3 line address & patent marking. Left side of bbl. at breech is marked "PPP3". Bottom of bolt handle & behind buttplate has matching assembly # "13". Half length walnut stock w/ steel carbine buttplate & sling swivel. Front swivel is bbl. band mounted. A brass disk marked "309" is attached to rear sling swivel. Tag is believed to indicate previous display at the Remington Arms Museum. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 2 stone tomahawk heads found on an Oklahoma Indian reservation. The Remington-Keene is associated w/ Indian use. The Frontier model, similar to this rifle, was made for the US Department of Interior & issued to Indian police. CONDITION: very fine. Bbl., receiver & trigger guard retain over 97% blue showing sm. spots of freckling. Buttplate retains 80% lightly worn blue. Bright polished carrier & bolt show scattered sm. spots of corrosion. Bore retains strong rifling showing very light pitting. Original stock finish shows light wear w/ scratches, marks & finish chips. Sm. cracks are found behind top tang & forward of floorplate.
