REMINGTON NO. 2 SPORTING ROLLING BLOCK RIFLE.

Cal. 357 Mag. S# 36510. Bbl. 26" matching numbered (under forend) octagon with "32" on bottom flat in front of forend plus Remington marks on top flat in front of rear sight dovetail. Dovetailed sights (missing rear); brass blade in base at front. Mfg. 1873-1909; early examples had Remington info on tang and later production had Remington markings on frame like this one. Distinctive features of perch belly walnut stock set having cast contoured metal buttplate plus ebony insert in schnable tip on forend. Ends of small sized frame are curved rather than squared off like most Rolling Blocks. Blued with case colored frame and buttplate. Tang factory drilled and tapped for sight; plug screws installed. Redfield 4X gloss finished scope with crosswire reticle and 3/4" tube mounted in Redfield alloy grooved receiver rings; Brownell alloy base sectioned and fastened with 4 screws. CONDITION: Good general appearance with patina, peppery oxidation and handling marks throughout. All original metal finish with very faded grey case colors. Additional stock finish (recent) with very minimal change to any dimensions. Light screw slot marks on all screws. Barrel has been professionally rebored and rerifled to present caliber. Well executed (and costly) alteration yielding a near excellent bore while preserving all exteriors. Scope has very slight wear to top edge of objective bell and to elevation turret cap; balance of scope is near excellent including optics. Rings have thinning finish on outer edges; bases have natural edge finishes from sectioning. PROVENANCE: Estate of Frank Glenn Marsh. (22-6176/NW). CURIO. $450-600.
