REVOLUTIONARY WAR ERA DUTCH OR GERMAN MUSKET
WITH AMERICAN NAME & REGIMENT ON STOCK. Cal. Approx. 80. NSN. Bbl. 45 3/4". Pinned bbl. has partially legible proofs on the left side including “6”. There are parallel bands at the breech. Unmarked iron lock features a squared off frizzen & unreinforced cock. Brass trigger guard w/ 2 rear screws. Iron trigger w/ curled base. Brass buttplate w/ 2 rear screws & 1 top screw. Long brass somewhat flattened side plate. Iron ramrod w/ 3 brass ramrod pipes but entry thimble is missing. Brass nosecap. Stock has period carving on the right side that reads, “Benj HASKEL Tuppens Rgt”. There is a lg. swell in the stock where the entry thimble was. CONDITION: bbl. & lock have a very dark, deep ancient patina. Lock holds both full & half cock. The brass has a dark mustard patina & appears to have never been cleaned. Stock has numerous dents & dings but no major breaks. There is a short tight crack beneath the lock at the front & rear of the lock. There are some losses around the area of the missing entry thimble. There is a linen cord whipping repair to what can be assumed to be a stock break just in front of swelled area of the stock. It is possible this area may have been struck by a bullet or shrapnel, breaking the stock & dislodging the entry thimble. Through cursory research we found a Benjamin Haskel serving w/ the Massachusetts Line & we also found references to a Tuppens’ Regiment, also associated w/ the Massachusetts Line. A very historic weapon worthy of further research & examination. (01-18004/BF). ANTIQUE. $2,000-4,000.
