REVOLUTIONARY WAR ERA SHORT LAND PATTERN BROWN
BESS FLINTLOCK MUSKET. Cal. 78. NSN. Bbl. 40 5/8". This gun appears cut down from a Revolutionary War era musket, which original would’ve been 42". Furniture from thimble back is consistent w/ short land pattern variation w/ the raised S shaped sideplate, high comb, 2nd model style buttplate, escutcheon & trigger guard. This gun has been stretched from rear thimble forward w/ replaced forestock & ramrod pipes, etc. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: bayonet. CONDITION: poor to fair overall; bbl. cut as noted, forestock, thimbles & ramrod replaced. External lock components all replaced in correct style so most likely reconversion, otherwise original w/ good markings on lock, no discernable bbl. or stock marks. Original portion of stock is refinished w/ heavy varnish w/ few disguised inset repairs. Forestock restoration made from 2 poorly fit pieces of wood. India Pattern bayonet refinished but fits adequately for display. (01-18430/JS). ANTIQUE. $1,200-1,500.
