REVOLUTIONARY WAR TO 1812 TURNED CANTEEN & CARVED

POWDER HORN.
1) CANTEEEN. A turned wood canteen measuring 8 1/4" in height & approx. 5 1/2" in diameter. Canteen is turned w/ 5 bands above & below the bung. Ends are single piece wood construction. There are 2 holes on either end even w/ the bung which facilitated use of a carrying strap. Canteen has substantial original early Spanish brown paint intact. CONDITION: canteen shows wear from field use but no major damage.
2) HORN. An interesting early carved powder horn sometimes referred to as a Resurrection horn. Horn measures approx. 9" in length & has a heptagonally faceted spout w/ a turned band approx. 1" up from the spout. The engraving appears to depict a preacher gesturing towards the heavens w/ a bare breasted female emerging from her hiding place w/ another nude female standing w/ a cloak behind. A third, bare breasted female wearing a dress appears to ascend towards the heavens. An interesting motif to say the least. CONDITION: horn shows light wear overall w/ no notable damage or areas of heavy wear. (02-15681/BF). $500-700.
