RUGER 416 WILDCAT MODEL 77 FLAT BOLT ACTION RIFLE.

Cal. .416 EXP. S# 70-21264. Bbl. 22 1/2" sporter measuring .670" at muzzle. Remington serrated ramp w/ narrow Williams gold bead front sight plus Lyman 25 base w/ Lyman 16 folding rear sight. Mfg. using Ruger tang safety flat bolt receiver mfg. 1970 having mag. bolt face & cartridge box limited to 2.9" overall cartridge length indicating original cal. was likely 6.5 or 350 Rem. Mag. Exhaustive research after doing chamber cast of present chambering resulted in only one cartridge even close. 10.6x51 (416x2") is most similar but shorter; 416 Express is a wildcat longer than the chambering. Basic dimensions of 10.6x51 are: case length 2.000", body length 1.586", neck length .370" & dia. at front of body of .500". Chamber (dial caliper measured) cast dimensions are: case length 2.207", body length 1.727", neck length .442" & dia. at front of body is .500" plus basic belt & base dia. If dies cannot be obtained to match chamber, plausible solution would be to set bbl. back a couple of threads & rechamber to 10.6x51 or rebarrel to short mag. that will fit in mag. box. Standard red pad stock w/ 2 capped reinforcements; by recoil lug plus between mag. box & trigger. Very early flat bolt action w/ bolt guide, steel floorplate / trigger guard assembly & tang safety. CONDITION: overall near excellent appearance. Action reblued (along w/ balance of metal) having plum tone (also on bolt shroud but not balance of bolt) plus pitting at & below stock line of left side. Stock does not appear refinished yet reinforcements indicate it may have been. Approx. 4" repaired crack starting at right front corner of floorplate base; recoil lug area of action & chamber portion of bbl. glass bedded w/ Microbed. Light oxidation on sling studs. Near excellent bore. (21-4175/NW). MODERN. $300-500.
