SHOT RIFLE. Cal. 45-70. S# 131-45335. Limited edition of only 101 Grade 1 and 1,000 Grade 2 rifles were mfg. in 1978 to commemorate Lyman's 100th anniversary. Bbl. 28" tapered round "D" weight with scope blocks. Right side of the receiver is marked Lyman 1878–1978 with the running buck logo. Left side is engraved "1938". Bottom of the frame has a hand-engraved issue number, "L-061". Markings are bordered by highlights of the foliate scroll that continue to the upper & lower receiver surfaces, as well as the breech & muzzle ends of the bbl. Bbl. ends have gold bands. Schnable-tipped forend and pistol grip cheekpiece stock of fancy black walnut with a satin finish. Features include a point-pattern hand-checkering steel grip cap & buttplate. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: housed in it's original walnut case measuring 48 1/2" x 16 3/4" x 3 1/2". Case has a fitted red velour interior. Inside lid has a presentation plaque certifying this rare rifle, signed by Lyman President J. Mace Thompson. Case contains a 34 1/2" Lyman model 1938 tube scope, brass centennial medallion, and the hardbound book "THE CENTENNIAL JOURNAL". Nickel-finished Lyman loading tool. Lyman mold handles. Lyman 4-loading die set, 1-20 rd. box of Lyman Centennial 45-70, cleaning rod, & case key. CONDITION: near excellent & unused, retaining virtually all original blue. Wood shows a few small handling marks. Near-excellent bore. (23-6391/DS). MODERN. $2,000-3,000.
