Extremely Rare 1902 American Eagle Cartridge Counter Luger, #22427, 9mm, 4'' barrel, blue finish with straw small parts, factory checkered walnut grips with cartridge counter metal strip and celluloid cover, and special nickel-plated magazine with extra slot and cartridge indicator; correct unmarked wooden base with metal insert. Top of chamber with American eagle, DWM to toggle link, serrated thumb safety lever, both positions are blued as is correct for this model. Considered extremely rare with only 50 mfg'd between serial numbers 22401-22450. After the 1900 American Eagle was tested by the U.S. Government, the low stopping power of the 7.65mm cartridge was a great concern. This up-calibered version, with what is known as the ''Powell Indicating Device'', was submitted in hopes of securing a U.S. military contract. Condition is near excellent with thinning at muzzle. Front sight blade and grip screws have toned somewhat gray. Grips remain crisp with only light flattening. Thinning to straw colors, crisp action, and bright bore. Est.: $20,000-$30,000.
