Rare Antique Irish Copy of a Henry Deringer Percussion Pocket Pistol, by Joseph Bowls of 22 Patrick Street, Cork, NVSN, .52 cal., 3-7/16'' octagonal barrel with pin front sight, marked ''Bowls Cork'' on top flat, floral engraved at breech and top tang; engraved serpentine lockplate with maker's name and matching hammer; steel mountings include an engraved nipple bolster, loop trigger guard with pineapple front tang, and ramrod ferrule; and a German silver shield inlay at wrist, all engraved en suite; one-piece varnished walnut (or root-wood) fullstock is finely checkered at wrist and bag style butt. Mfg'd ca. 1830s-40s. Measures 7.5'' overall. Condition is very good. Steel surfaces retain no original finish but are a smooth gunmetal color; German silver is clean; markings and engraving are sharp. Stock is solid and smooth with sharp checkering and much original varnish. Ramrod is missing. Action is strong and crisp; smoothbore is bright having scattered light erosion. Irish-made Deringer copies are quite rare. Est.: $600-$900. (Antique)
