Rare Factory Engraved Belgian Browning Superposed Presentation Grade P-4W Over/Under Four Barrel Skeet Set, Signed by Master Engraver Claude Baerten, #PA4RR1112, with blued 28" 12 ga., 20 ga., 28 ga., and .410 barrels. All barrels are in the same configuration and feature ventilated ribs, 2-3/4" chambers, fixed Skeet/Skeet chokes, and target beads. Sideplated coin finished boxlock receiver features selective ejectors, non-auto safety, single selective trigger, and full coverage in Presentation Grade IV hand engraving, with deep scroll designs surrounding a game scene of five gold inlaid pheasants on the left sideplate; four gold inlaid mallards on the right sideplate; single gold inlaid quail on the bottom. Forend iron, trigger guard, and lower tang also feature similar scroll engraving, with gold inlaid dog's head on the trigger guard bow. Left sideplate is signed C. Baerten, for Master Engraver Claude Baerten. Forend and long tang pistol grip stock are of gloss-finished high grade walnut, with fine wraparound checkering patterns, and vented brown rubber Browning recoil pad. Stock dimensions are 14- 3/8" x 1-1/2" x 1-3/4". Mfg'd 1977 by FN in Belgium for Browning. Gun and all the barrels are contained in an original Browning brown Naugahyde case. Shotgun is in excellent overall condition, displaying typical signs of light handling and use. Barrels all retain at least 97% factory blue, with intermittent minor handling marks, and some areas of mild wear to the ventilated ribs. The mid-rib on the 20 gauge barrels has scattered, small, and very mild freckling on the right side. Coin finished receiver is excellent. Buttstock with a few light scratches and handling marks, primarily on the left side and bottom edge. Forend has a few light, but more noticeable scratches and shallow impressions on the left side, near the receiver and lower right edge. Checkering detail is sharp throughout. Action functions correctly and locks up well. All the bores are bright throughout. Browning case is excellent, with a few moderate storage type marks. Table 5-7 on page 415 of "The Browning Superposed, John M. Browning's Last Legacy", by Ned Schwing, indicates that only 11 "All Gauge" Presentation Grade 4 skeet sets were produced, making this an extremely rare and desirable four-barrel set for the Browning or high-grade shotgun collector. Est.: $22,000-$28,000. (Modern)
