Rare ''Ideal'' Holster Shoulder Stock for Mauser Broomhandle Pistol. Nice early metal telescoping shoulder stock with internal leather holster for a Mauser C96 Broomhandle pistol. Tubular metal frame with machine-hinged locking system, and two flat push pins to lock the arms in place. Vellum covered flat spring inside holster to retain pistol. Leather holster body is riveted and screwed to the frame and features a riveted spring steel belt clip; metal loop at bottom for a carry strap. These were designed to use metal plates that fit into the pistol's grip area and had wooden grips fitted to the outside of the plates. By extending the stock mechanism, it would lock into the grip plates for use as a shoulder stock for the pistol. (Grip plates are not present.) Measures 13-3/4'' long when extended, and 10-7/8'' long when retracted, approx. 5'' wide at the rear, with a 1-3/16'' opening at top of holster mouth. Holster measures approx. 9-1/4'' long at the top edge. Condition is excellent, with much of the original bone charcoal, fire blued finish on the back frame and belt clip, with wear on the high edges and some spotting to the finish. The tubular arms show an even gray patina. The machined hinge and locking mechanism parts retain much of the same bone charcoal fire blued finish with wear on the high edges. Mechanism functions perfectly. Leather holster body shows age and minor shrinkage with a few light scuffs. Stitching is all intact and tight. No markings on the metal parts, as is correct. Sometimes you see these marked ''Pat. Pending'', but they did not put any mfgr's marks on these holster stocks. The Ideal Holster Stock Co. started business in the late 1890's and made these shoulder stock holsters for Colt revolvers, Colt automatic pistols, many early European automatic pistols, and most famously for the early Lugers. The company disappeared around 1912. This example fitting a Mauser C96 Broomhandle is exceedingly rare. Est.: $1,500-$2,500.
