Extremely Rare Long Barreled Spencer Repeating Rifle Co., Post-Civil War Sporting Rifle, #580, .56-46 RF cal., 30'' barrel, folding ladder rear sight dovetailed into barrel with graduations to 800 yards, along with an unmarked long-range tang mounted ladder peep sight and a copper blade front dovetail sight; receiver components have assembly number 217; hammer has a half-cock notch. Stock and forend are straight grain walnut with a Spencer buttplate, pewter forend cap and single sling swivel; weight is 10 lbs. Mechanical condition is good to very good with a working action; dark bore is heavily oxidized with worn rifling. Barrel blue remains approx. 30% with overall fine pitting and scratching on exposed portions, with more pronounced oxidation under and around the forend; small hammer marks and chafing near the rear sight from adjusting the windage. Action has a matte gray patina with no remaining finish. Stock has overall denting and scuffing on an old revarnish with pry marks around the lockplate, filled grain splitting, and repaired chips near trigger on both sides of the wrist. There is a 3'' split on both sides of the magazine tube; left side of forend is missing a 6''x1/2'' section along barrel, right side has 1/2'' chip by frame and a small narrow chip forward of the sight.
