The Remington Model 1882 is a antique side-by-side double-barrel hammer shotgun manufactured in Ilion, New York, from 1882 to 1888. Grade 1. Serial number 3455 was manufactured early in the production run, likely in 1883 or early 1884. Remington's first double-barrel model to use a top lever to open the action. External 'Rabbit Ear' hammers, double triggers, 30' 'Duck' de-carbonized steel barrels with low profile rib marked "E. Remington & Sons. Ilion, N.Y.", locks unmarked (Correct). left barrel measures 'IM' and right 'Full', 2 5/8' chambers, checkered forearm with ebony insert in tip, Deeley release, walnut stock with checkered, rounded "prince of Wales" grip, spurred smooth steel buttplate. The hammer action is crisp, barrels lock-up tight, the metal finishes have turned a molted gray/brown patina with age & wear, the bores are dark with light pitting throughout, the wood is overall good/sound with heavy wear to the forearm checkering, a small chip out of the right side, many minor scratches/dings. Matching serial numbers. NOTE* The chamber is a shorter 2 5/8' and original barrels can split or rupture if fired with high-pressure modern smokeless ammunition.
