Vintage American made hammer fired sidelock side-by-side shotgun chambered for 2-3/4" 10 Gauge shells, and manufactured in Ilion, NY. The models 1882 and 1883 were produced until 1888. The 1882 was the first to use a turning lever to open the action, and it was known as the 'Hammer Lifter Action'. This example of an 1882 is a 'Grade 2' which has different barrel steel, no receiver engraving, and a steel butt plate. Shotgun features a color case receiver and locks, approximately 30" twist steel barrels, brass bead front sight, both bores measure 'Cylinder' with a drop-in gauge, double smooth curved triggers, dual external hammers with checkered spurs, floating firing pins, and a checkered top lever. The hardwood furniture consists of a round knobbed shoulder stock with checkering at the wrist, checkered splinter forend, Deely latch release, edge forend catch, 14" length-of-pull to the front trigger, 2" drop at comb, 2-7/8" drop at heel, and a smooth metal butt plate. The barrel rib is marked 'E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILION. N.Y.'. The original color case finish retained is approximately 20% with most of the coloring having transitioned to a gray patina. The barrels are showing a brown patina. There are finish losses on the trigger guard. Metal displays no rust, but there was some pin-prick pitting on the trigger guard. Metal deformation was observed on the trigger guard with grind marks, and some of the screw slots. The action opens quick and easily under its own weight, the top lever rests in the centerline of the tang, barrels lock-up tight, and the fire control group works well. The hardwood furniture is in good condition with superficial handling marks, low areas in the checkering, and a crack on the left side between the trigger guard and lock plate. Bores look smooth without dents.
Condition is NRA Good to Very Good.
