American made bolt-action repeating rifle chambered for .30-06 Springfield. This is a U.S. infantry rifle that was used in both Word Wars, and it is essentially a modified Mauser turn-bolt action. Rifle features a blued finish, a 26" barrel, rear aperture battle sight with a folding ladder sight, protected blade front sight, serrated curved trigger, upper band with stacking swivel and bayonet lug, internal clip-fed 5-round magazine, 'dog leg' style bolt handle, bolt release on the left receiver rail, military style hinged floorplate, and a serrated right receiver mounted manual thumb safety. The three-piece walnut furniture consists of a smooth straight gripped shoulder stock with a hand stop, smooth finger grooved forend, smooth upper and lower handguards, sling swivels on the lower barrel band and on the bottom of the shoulder stock, and a smooth steel butt plate with a trap-door storage compartment. "U.S. Model of 1917 Remington," and the serial number is marked on chamber. The barrel is dated 12-17, with a flaming bomb and an "R" stamp. It is fitted with a Remington front sight, which is also stamped "R". A flaming bomb is stamped on left receiver rail, and the bolt handle is stamped "E" with the flaming ordnance bomb. Several letters and an eagle's head cartouche are marked on the forend in front of the trigger guard. An Eagle's head cartouche can be found behind the trigger guard. There is an English broad arrow on the right side of the shoulder stock. This rifle was likely made in the U.S. and sent over to Britain. The original blued finish retained is approximately 85% with edge wear, general finish thinning, and normal handling wear. Metal displays minimal deformation in some of the screw slots, and there is oxidation found on the barrel, upper barrel band, and butt plate. Action is smooth and crisp, and the bore is bright with strong rifling. The furniture wood is in good condition considering for its age with no cracks, and some dents and scratches.
Condition is NRA Good.
