Remington-Hepburn ''A Quality'' No. 3 Match Target Rifle, #3460, .38 CF cal., 28'' half-round, half-octagon steel barrel marked ''E. Remington & Sons. Ilion. N.Y.'' on top flat at breech, dovetailed gold Beach front sight, adjustable elevator rear barrel sight and adjustable peep tang sight. Marked ''38'' on bottom of barrel, and ''Hepburns Pat. / Oct 7th 1879'' in tiny letters at bottom left side of receiver. Originally with blued and case hardened finishes. Varnished high-comb walnut pistol-grip stocks, checkered at wrist; nickel-plated brass Schuetzen (or ''Swiss'') style buttplate; steel (or pewter) forend cap. Condition is excellent retaining approx. 80%-90% original barrel blue, with a few minor dings and 50% darkening and silvering case hardening. Screw slots are straight and unmarred. Stocks are fine showing excellent color, very minor handling, and retain most original varnish. Bore is bright with shallow rifling. Quite a rare and desirable, high-condition Remington Target rifle, with production estimates at less than 1,000 guns. Est.: $2,500-$3,500. (Antique)
