Remington-Keene Magazine Bolt Action Sporting Rifle, NVSN, .45-70 Gov't cal., 24'' blued round barrel, cartridge tube and front band, blued receiver, blued steel furniture including triggerguard, magazine floorplate, nosecap with sling swivel, and buttplate; case hardened hammer and bolt marked on top in three lines ''E. Remington & Sons, Ilion, N.Y.'' over six patent dates; varnished walnut halfstock. This rifle seems to follow the style of the ''Frontier Model'' made for the U.S. Dept. of Interior for arming the Indian Police, c. 1880-1881, including the barrel length and sling swivels at nosecap and bottom of buttstock, but lacking the ''U.S.I.D'' and government inspectors' markings. Condition is good+, the barrel and magazine tube showing approx. 85% of what may be a very old reblue mixed with scattered light pitting and discoloration; integral front sight on top of barrel band which was ground off for the addition of a dovetailed sight (now missing); adjustable leaf rear sight missing; nose cap, receiver, triggerguard and buttplate show approx. 50% original blue mixing with light age patina. Stock is sound and smooth showing age and use but without major dings or losses (stock swivel missing). Action functions as designed; bore is shiny with defined rifling. Est.: $700-$900. (Antique)
