Remington Model 1897 Rolling Block Breechloading Single Shot Saddle Ring Carbine, NVSN, 7mm CF cal., 20.5'' tapered round barrel with high blade front and sliding-leaf (has unique ramped-notch) rear sights, without visible marks; large No. 5 action has military type high-spur hammer, standard hinged breechblock, loop trigger guard, auto extraction, left-side saddle ring and bar, has illegible breech marking, maker's name, address and 1901 patent date in three lines on top tang; three-piece oil-stained walnut stocks, the forend retained by a steel band having sling swivel at right, top handguard (with opening for rear sight) has steel end caps, buttstock with right sling swivel and plain steel buttplate. Mfg'd post-1898 with blued barrel and case hardened receiver. Condition is very good retaining no original finishes, the metal being dark brown with overall light etching/roughness and clear markings. Stocks are solid showing scattered marks/gouges from military use, handguard shows lighter color. Rear sight missing one screw. Action is strong and smooth; bore is clean showing overall etching and defined rifling. Est.: $400-$600. (C&R)
