Remington model 8 factory engraved model 8 chambered in .35 Remington. Long-Recoil, Fixed Magazine Fed, Semi-Automatic Rifle. Expert Grade (E Grade / No. 5) engraving, a higher deluxe tier featuring more extensive, intricate coverage than the Peerless grade with finer wood selection and detailed checkering, second only to the Premier grade. The top of the barrel jacket is marked “MANUFACTURED BY THE REMINGTON ARMS CO. ILION, N.Y. U.S.A. / BROWNING’S PATENTS OCT. 9, 1900 OCT. 16, 1900, JUNE 3, 1902", a little feint but readable. The right side of the barrel under the forearm is marked “R.P.” in an oval, left side marked with date code "AE". Because production of the Model 8 officially ended in 1936 to make way for the Model 81 Woodsmaster, an "AE" code signifies that this rifle was made during the very final month of production for this historic model. There is beautiful hand-cut engraving of loose open flowing foliate scroll on the barrel jacket for about 3'' while the balance of the arm has quality loose open flowing scroll with background punch-dot shading in about 75% coverage, on the receiver, safety lever, magazine & tangs the left side of frame with a running stag vignette. Higher-quality, upgraded checkered walnut wood shoulder stock & forearm, period-correct point pattern checkering on both the wrist and the schnabel-tip forend, built with a classic English-style straight grip ,checkered black hard rubber buttplate, unmarked, appears to be a newer replacement. Silver initial plate imbedded in the undersie of the buttstock. The serial number is matched on the receiver, lower tang, barrel under the forearm and it is stamped in the barrel channel of the forearm. The bore is excellent/bright, the action is smooth, the wood is overall very good/sound with minor scratches/dings and the blue is about 94% with some edge wear on the receiver, magazine, slight handling wear on the tangs & bottom metal and some minor scratches. Comes with a period "Mutton Leg" fleece lined leather case, has many scuffs and edge wear, handle, straps intact.
NRA Condition-Very Good. C&R Firearm.
