Remington No 1 Rolling Block .44 S100 #7070
'Long Range Creedmoor' Gorgeous antique rolling block single shot target rifle chambered in .44-100 Remington Creedmoor. Manufactured circa 1873-1890 with only a few hundred of these rifles estimated to have been produced. Jim Wilkinson documents purchasing this rifle from famed collector Maurice C. Clark in 1963. Mr. Clark expressed "This arm was Remingtons display piece at the International Exposition in 76", and that it was from Philo Remington's personal collection. Rifle features fine scroll engraving on the barrel & receiver with a dozen gold wire inlays, blued 34" part octagon/part round heavy barrel marked "E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILION. N.Y.", windage adjustable globe front sight with extra fine beaded post insert & spirit lever, filled-in rear sight dovetail, tang mounted long range Vernier peep sight, case hardened receiver, smooth trigger, shield pattern knurling on the hammer & block spurs, fancy hand checkered fancy walnut forend with horn tip and pistol grip shoulder stock with heel mount sight base & double diamond checkered hard rubber buttplate. Includes a typed account of the rifles history as know by Jim Wilkinson, dated Feb 12, 1987 and signed. All observed serial numbers match, including the receiver, barrel and forend. The barrel retains nearly all of its blued finish which appears plum with some light steaks and the case colors are vivid. Action is crisp, the bore is excellent and the wood stocks are very good with some small blemishes & finish loss. Condition is NRA Fine. ***Antique Firearm*** [From the Jim Wilkinson Rifle Ranch Collection]
