Remington No. 5 Rolling Block Single-Shot Saddle Ring Carbine, #790, 7mm CF cal., 20.5'' round barrel with standard sights, marked ''790'' and ''Cal. 7 M.M.'' on top, large No. 1 receiver has auto extraction, integral trigger guard, left-side saddle ring and bar, and marked with maker's name, address and ''Patented Oct'r. 22nd, 1902'' in three lines on upper tang; three-piece oil-finished walnut stocks, the forend held by a single barrel band having a right-side sling swivel, the upper handguard with steel caps at either end, the buttstock with a right-side sling swivel and steel buttplate. Mfg'd ca. 1897-1905, originally with blued barrel, case hardened receiver and buttplate. Condition is very good+. Barrel retains a thin, smooth bluish-gray color, receiver's case colors have silvered out, the balance of the metal has no original finish but is gunmetal gray. Stocks are solid and virtually unmarked (likely having been sanded), have a smooth oil finish and excellent appearance. Markings are sharp; action is strong and smooth; bore is clean showing mild frosting and sharp rifling. Est.: $500-$750. (C&R)
