Antique Irish 4-Barrel Boxlock Pepperbox Pistol, by Rigby of Dublin, having unique selective hammer striker, NVSN, .52 cal., 2.75'' fixed round barrel group numbered ''1'' thru ''4'' and made with unusual bulbous breeches (numbered to match) having four nipples on flat upper surface; finely engraved frame is marked ''Wm & Jn Rigby'' in a flowing banner at left side, ''Dublin'' in matching banner at right, has folding trigger that drops on cocking the hammer with its unique revolving striker plate that manually rotates to align with each successive nipple on firing, integral gripstraps with one-piece checkered and varnished rootwood grips having a vacant German-silver nameplate at top-wrist and another at butt. Mfg'd ca. 1820-65. Condition is very good retaining no original finishes but an overall gunmetal gray having scattered light oxidation/patination, clear engraving and markings (barrels may originally have had Damascus finish, now traces of what appears to be a mottled pattern). Grips are sound and smooth showing worn checkering and finish, but nice grain and color. Action is strong, smooth and functions as designed; bores are clean with light overall frosting and deeply-cut rifling. Est.: $1,000-$1,500. (Antique)(John Ackerman collection)
