Mexican War-Era U.S. Model 1841 ''Mississippi'' Muzzleloading Percussion Infantry Rifle, by Robbins & Lawrence, NVSN, .54 cal., 33'' round barrel with blade front and raised notch rear sights, marked ''WW/P'' at breech; beveled lockplate is marked ''Robbins/&/Lawrence/U.S.'' ahead of hammer, and ''Windsor VT/1850'' vertically behind; brass furniture includes trigger guard having a long rear tang and sling swivel at front, serpentine sideplate, large right-side patchbox with hinged door opening to trap in butt containing a bullet worm, buttplate marked ''US'' at top screw, two spring-retained barrel bands (front of the double-strap type (with sling swivel) that forms a nosecap retaining the brass-tipped steel ramrod). Condition is very good. Barrel retains perhaps 40% thinning original brown (discolored at muzzle where possibly front sight was repaired), lockplate and hammer are gunmetal gray, brass has a smooth patina. Stock is sound and smooth having numerous marks of military use between the barrel bands (inspector's mark opposite lock is not visible). Action is very strong and smooth; bore is brilliant with deep rifling. Est.: $1,500-$2,000. (Antique)
