The is a Rock Island Arsenal M1903 rifle refurbished for use in WW2 purchased from the Civilian Marksmanship Program in 2002. Serial indicated WW1 production in 1918. High-number / Double heat-treated receiver. The serial number is well past the 285,507 structural cutoff, indicating receiver was manufactured using the updated, significantly stronger double heat-treatment process. Features a Black/gray parkerized finish, barrel marked "S.A.", flaming bomb and "7-42", "P" proof on the underside of barrel. Remington bolt has "4213" electro-penciled on the bolt handle, folding leaf-type tangent-increment rear sight graduated from 100 to 2,700 yards, pinned, dovetailed front sight blade, upgraded auxiliary gas escape hole in left chamber, serrated trigger, upgraded "scant" type stock with semi-pistol grip without grasping grooves, smooth steel buttplate with trapdoor, "1" over "3" stamped on the underside of buttstock, partial SN " 5074" stamped on the left buttstock. The bore is good, strong rifling, lightly frosted in the grooves, action is smooth, the wood is overall excellent with a few minor dents and the finish is about 955 with minor scratches/rubs. m1907 type brown leather sling attached. Includes the original CMP Certificate of Authenticity.
