Royal Flying Corps marked Smith & Wesson Model 455 2nd Model Hand Ejector Double Action Revolver, #34045, .455 MK II cal., 6.5'' barrel, blue finish, unnumbered diamond checkered walnut grips with S&W medallions, and lanyard loop in butt. Shipped Jan. 16, 1916 to the Remington Arms Union Metallic Co., New Haven, with factory letter verifying all features, signed by S&W Historian Roy G. Jinks. Upper portion of backstrap marked ''42/RFC/90''. (42nd Squadron Royal Flying Corps was formed April 1, 1916, and mostly flew reconnaissance missions on both the western and the Austro-Italian front, very active in WWII and the post-war era, and formerly disbanded on May 26, 2011.) This revolver additionally features English proof marks near forcing cone area and just above grips on left side of frame. Condition is very good to fine retaining approx. 75% thinning blue, with most of the losses to forward portion of barrel and cylinder. Front and back strap have toned a light brown.
