S/42 Mauser P.08 Luger, dated 1937, with British proof marks, #6076t, 9mm, 4'' barrel, 1937 late type blued finish with blued small parts, factory checkered walnut grips, ''(eagle)/63'' and Weimar eagle proof marks on slide, S/42 marked toggle, and one tin-plated wood based magazine. All visible numbers match except the sideplate. Sideplate is an earlier Erfurt made piece, numbered ''78''. British 1925-1955 Birmingham proof marks of ''(crown)/BP'', and ''(crown)/BV'' in a circle, and ''Not English Make''. These British proofs are stamped on the barrel, slide, frame, and front toggle piece. The ''Not English Make'' is stamped on the frame just in front of the sideplate. Condition is good showing approx. 80 % of its original blued finish,, with holster wear on the high edges of the slide and frame, sideplate, and trigger guard. Barrel has some scratches and dings on the side, as well as holster wear at the muzzle. Trigger guard edges and front gripstrap have numerous small dings and scratches. Lower part of the front gripstrap has holster wear at the mag opening. Rear gripstrap is very nice with slight wear to the finish on the stock lug. Blued small parts retain most all of their finish. Walnut grips show scuffs and wear, flattening to the diamonds, and a couple of small gouges to the left grip; right grip has a few light depressions. Magazine shows age and use to the body; wood base has some small chips in the lugs, numbered 586b with a faint Imperial proof mark. Action and hold-open function properly; bore is lightly pitted overall but still has discernible lands and grooves. Est.: $700-$1,000. (C&R/PPT)(John Ackerman collection)
