REVOLVER. Cal. 45 S&W Schofield. S# 2856. Bbl. 7" with half moon brass blade sight plus rear sight notch in barrel latch. Mfg. 1875; S# 1 to 3035. All correct markings including "U.S." on butt at front rather than on rear for later models. Matching numbered barrel, cylinder and grips. Early "L" and "P" acceptance marks on barrel and cylinder but just "L" on top of frame under cylinder. Left grip has very faint boxed cartouche. Very scarce desirable early model with all correct factory markings. CONDITION: close to very good original finish having holster like wear on barrel and cylinder along with scattered areas of peppery oxidation. Trigger guard and hammer have gray tone, as all case coloring has faded away. Sides of frame have good amount of original bright S&W blue along with light scratches to include 3 streaks of finish loss on right side behind recoil shield. Left grip very good with hand wear and faint marks on butt. Right grip similar with addition of smoothed chips on forward half at butt. Grip straps thinning with beginning patina appearance. Cylinder has cleaned mottled appearance of gray patina being darker in grooves having cleaned peppery oxidation throughout. Lock up and mechanical function clearly near excellent. Bright very good bore with streaks of light pitting on lands in rear half. (01-21435/NW). ANTIQUE. $4,000-6,000.
