DRAGOON REVOLVER. Cal. 44. S# 19558. Bbl. 8". Few dragoons survive w/ 8" bbls., most were 7.5", but several handful made at end of production. This example has 3 line inscription on backstrap “Presented To first Lt. Tyler P Rood / Jan 31 1863 By Company B. / Q.M.U.S.V.” Buttstrap has initials “ADC” scratched in. This is a nice, all matching survivor w/ interesting inscription. Tyler P. Rood, aged 22, enlisted Jan. 3rd, 1863 as 1st Lieut. in Co. B 6th Iowa Cavalry. He was promoted to Captain of the US volunteer quartermaster department May 10, 1864 & resigned April 9th, 1865. CONDITION: good to very good overall, frame & bbl. refinished. Metal overall plum/dark gray patina, most pitting removed from refinish of frame & bbl. still present on loading arm & cyl. All parts having matching numbers. Cyl. scene is partially visible. Several screws restored. Grips have been refinished & varnished w/ moderate edge wear. Mechanics fine w/ clear, rifled bore w/ pitting. PROVENANCE: The Estate Collection of Gary Parietti.
