MUSKET BY WINDSOR (ROBBINS & LAWRENCE). Cal. 58. NSN. About 16,000 of these were manufactured under contract to the British government. The initial order was for 25,000 muskets. The end of the Crimean war resulted in the cancellation of the order and the bankruptcy of the Robbins & Lawrence Company. The 39" barrel is affixed by 3 split bands and is fitted with ladder rear sight marked with steps for 300-500 yds. and with ladder to 1,300 yds. Rear of bbl. with Nock form, is stamped with Birmingham black powder proofs for 25 bore. Front spring lock with crown at rear is marked 1858 and “WINDSOR”. Brass furniture includes trigger guard and buttplate. Walnut stock extends to within 4" of muzzle with brass cap. CONDITION: fair to good. Barrel cleaned to mostly pewter gray with some brown splotches at rear over light pitting. Lock is also mostly pewter gray. Stock has nearly all of an old oil refinish with sanding marks evident. Bore is pitted and appears to be bored smooth. Lock is operable. (01-21151/MGM). ANTIQUE. $1,000-1,500.
