Africa. Uganda Game Dept. given to "Samaki" Salmon, Chief of Elephant Control Section upon his retirement. Years later found at Rigby's London bought by David Marx sold to Tony Sanchez Arino in early 60's owned by him until he sold it to consignor. As outlined by letter dated 24 Nov 2016 from Tony Sanchez Arino in which he relates rifles history and estimated minimum 2000 elephant, many buffalo and 193 lion taken. CONDITION: very good to fine "as found", refinished long ago. Metal parts retaining about 70% of an old rust reblue, presently show considerable hand wear as associated with quite a few years in the field. Disassembly shows some old cleaned pitting, mostly on bottom metal below wood surface. Stock retains most of an old oil refinish over some marks and with a good scattering subsequent. Checkering probably recut at time of refinish shows later wear and dents. Bore is very good to fine, shiny, but showing light frosting throughout and considerable erosion at throat. (most likely retains good accuracy). Action is smooth, front sight bead bent, front sling loop attached to eye with loops of wire. (22-5837/MGM). CURIO. $10,000-20,000.
