STAFF OFFICER SWORD. Classic 1850 Staff & Field sword, pierced floral decorated hilt with large “US”. Steel scabbard with engraved brass mounts, pommel has engraved patriotic shield and stars, 33” blade has fine etched patriotic panels and etched on ricasso “H G HAMLIN”. Hannibal G. Hamlin (1837-1937) sold swords from his Cincinnati store during the Civil War, 1862-1865. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: custom made display case with 1897 Cincinnati reunion celluloid. CONDITION: very good overall, blade retains most of its original luster, brass cleaned and toned to light mustard patina with traces of gold wash in protected areas. Shark skin grip complete with triple twisted wire. Scabbard body has traces of original brown finish, balance mottled iron patina with scattered areas of pitting. Custom case is fine.
