SCARCE CIVIL WAR MODEL 1863 LINDSAY 2 SHOT RIFLE
MUSKET. Cal. 58. NSN. Bbl. 41". This is a truly innovative design which few, if any, actually saw use though contracted in 1863. Configuration is much like a standard musket, except lock is internal & has 2 hammers which would fire consecutive loads. Gun would be loaded/ powder & ball, then another powder & ball on top. Both hammers are cocked simultaneously, then trigger fires hammer on right which is connected to front load & second pull fires left hammer which is connected to first load. CONDITION: fine overall. Metal is bright w/ crisp “LINDSAY / PATENT’D OCT. 9 1860” on breech. Most parts stamped w/ sm. inspectors initials. Stock is sound & solid w/ 2 discernible inspector’s cartouches, sharp edges, minor nicks & dents. Stock & nosecap retain virtually all of an applied varnish. Mechanically fine w/ exception of broken spring to left hammer, which needs to be restored to operate. Bore is crisp & bright. (01-19369/JS). ANTIQUE. $2,500-3,000.
