WITH CUSTER RANGE PARTS. Cal. 45 Colt. S# 115358 (frame). Usual configuration. Bbl. 5 1/2". Thinned front sight & 1 line script letter address w/ daggers at each end. Left side of frame has 3 line patent dates & "U.S" surcharge. Mounted w/ 1 piece walnut grip w/ no discernible cartouche. Ejector housing has bullseye ejector rod head. Base pin is early style has dimpled ends. The following SN's were observed: 9752 on bbl.; 4927 on trigger guard & “A” Ainsworth inspector initial; 664 (partial number) on the buttstrap & 4046 on the cyl. w/ Ainsworth initial. Trigger guard (from group 4) & cyl. (group 5) were issued probably to US cavalry in January 1874 are Custer range. Kopec & Finn in their 1994 "Cavalry & Artillery Revolvers" list S#s 4949 & 4955 as 2 of only 13 lot 5 guns w/ documented 7th Cavalry association. CONDITION: good to very good, strong traces of arsenal refinish retained in protected areas, address weak, overall a smooth gray patina. Grip has chipped toes & poorly fits frame, edge wear, tacking marks. Mechanics are fine w/ crisp bore. (01-17275/JS). ANTIQUE. $1,500-2,000.
